Time for a Change as the Borders secure their 1st Border Challenge Cup in it’s 5 years of existing.

Dumfries & Galloway kids headed to the Border town of Peebles to take on the Borders in this annual event. Created in 2020 by DumfriesTennisClub to give more team tennis for the Borders and Dumfries & Galloway kids, the format is simple. There are 3 age groups, 9s , 10s and 12s with 4 players (normally) in each age group and all kids play 4 singles and 1 doubles against the other team. Todays event saw the Borders start strong as they took an early 7-1 lead which quickly rose to 12-1 and that would set the tone for the day. D&G started to claim some wins but the Borders 9s kept D&G at arms length as they eased to a comfortable victory 18-0. The 10s and 12s were tighter matches and the final 10s match, saw Borders edge a tight doubles to take that group 10-8. The 12s was D&Gs on hope to salvage some pride and with the score at 3-2 to D&G, they then managed to win 11 of the next 13 matches to bring the overall score closer, but they just came up short as the Borders sealed a 32-22 victory. Well done to our friends in the Borders, well deserved.
Big thank you to Michael Palmer for organising the Tennis Borders team, thanks to Peebles Tennis Club for hosting this events, big thanks to all the parents and children, without them this doesn’t happen.
Finally, a big thank you to Caitlin Topping, Oliver Murray and Adam Hunter who have competed in all 5 events and this will be their last, what an achievement. Also, take a bow Adam Hunter. Adam has played 24 matches over the 5 years with 22 wins, what a record.
