The final match of the 2018 D&G Winter League came down to the last rearranged match with Dumfries entertaining 4 times champions who were undefeated in all previous 15 matches. Both teams had won the previous 2 matches against Annan and Kirkcudbright with Dalbeattie completing all their matches away from home due to their courts being resurfaced.
Dalbeattie made their first change of the season with Darren Cassidy making his debut in the competition for the injured Paul Boardman with Graeme Cross coming in for Michael Goldie who partnered Martin Wilson in the previous days win against Annan.
Both teams made their way onto the Dumfries Courts with a bitingly cold easterly wind cutting through the venue. The first 2 singles matches were evenly contested with Graeme (Dumfries) using his experience to edge out Darren in the first match as he completed the win 7-5, 6-0. The results was revered in the other match a Stevie White (Dalbeattie) kept one step ahead of Martin Wilson (Dumfries) to take the match 6-4, 6-3. The title came down to the last doubles match with the current South of Scotland over 45 champions against the new partnership of Stevie and Darren. The Dumfries duo kept their nerve to hold back a powerful Dalbeattie team as the wrapped up the match and secured the first Winter titles for the club, 6-2, 6-4.
