Dalbeattie & Dumfries Retain Titles
The conclusion to the Men’s and Ladies 2013 league saw both of last year’s champions regain their titles.
Defending champions Dumfries A knew a home win against fellow challengers Stewartry CSC from Castle Douglas would be enough to regain the title but a win or draw would see the title heading to Castle Douglas for the first time in 4 years. The first match on saw Father and son pair from Dumfries Lister and Dan McKiddie up against experienced pair of Colin Kennedy and Bruce Todd, the first set seem to take an age with Dumfries just edging it 7-5, this seem to break the spirits of Stewartry with Dumfries completing the win with a 6-2 in the second set. The other match was controlled by Dumfries with Chris Topping and Graeme Cross beating Rab Peacock and Andy MacLachlan 6-0 & 6-3. This left a mountain to climb for the final round of matches for the Castle Douglas team but Dumfries proved to be too strong winning both rubbers 3&2 and 4&2. The remaining 2 fixtures have been postponed and will not be completed.
The ladies league title was regained by Dalbeattie with a record of 2 wins and 2 draws with the 2 remaining fixtures being treated as walkovers.
