Dumfries Tennis Club is running tennis camps over the Easter fortnight. These camps are open to current players and kids new to tennis.

Alan MacDonald of Thistle, the top seed, won the Scottish Indoor Men’s Championship for the third year in succession at the Newlands club in Glasgow today. The 35 year old Edinburgh based player beat Scott Duncan, a student at Stirling University and seeded 5, 6-1 6-1 in the final. Duncan had eliminated the second seed Vincent Gillespie 6-4 6-4 at the quarter final stage and then beaten Graham Dyce 6-3 6-3 in the semi-final. MacDonald, who has now won the singles title 10 ten times, beat coach Joe Gill in the other semi-final for the loss of only two games. 14 year old Alexandra Hunter [Waverley] was the surprise winner of the women’s title beating the unseeded Clara Falxa from the Cults club in Aberdeen 6-0 6-2 in Sunday’s final. Falxa had knocked out the holder Lisa Munro in straight sets in Saturday’s semi-final with Hunter beating Raffaella Mori from Gloucestershire in 6-2 2-6 [10-7] in the other semi. MacDonald and Thorn Park’s Robert Dalgetty retained their men’s doubles title with a 6-2 6-2 final win over the Thistle club pair Euan Bell and Tim Weir. Dumfries Tennis Club is holding 3 junior competitions during the upcoming school holidays in April and May. Entry forms can be downloaded from the links below.
Friday 13th February see the start of the 2015 Leaderboard circuit with Alan MacDonald defending his title. A strong field of 32 players will compete over the weekend to try a seek a good start to this year circuit which finishes late August.
Dumfries and Galloway Tennis leagues are scheduled to start on the following dates;
D&G Gents Doubles – 22 – April – 2015
D&G Ladies Doubles – 29 – April – 2015
D&G Junior Leagues – 10 – May – 2015
These are subject to change depending on number of teams entered.
Clubs are invited to enter the districts 2nd winter tennis league. The format is 3 rubbers with 2 player teams. Both players play a singles match against their opposite number then they finish of with a doubles match. The league is open to any D&G district club and any players who can compete and is a member of the relevant club. Any player/teams who are interested should contact their club to make sure courts are available then email Michael Goldie to log their interest. The leagues are scheduled for the 5 Sundays in March subject to team numbers.
