The first few events for the new tour are now online and will be open for entry on 13th March. Players can add these events to their watch list.

In this first year we are looking to try and get between 5 and 8 players per event per month but would certainly accept more.

The links below has the rules of the tour and links to each event.

D&G Mini Red Tour Annan

Another great turnout and some excellent play from the 27 players at Annan.

We has 6 girls and 21 boys playing some 80 matches in the four hours at the rather chilly Annan Sports hall.

The big surprise of the day was that none of the top 4 at the Dumfries event made the final today as the rest of the pack picked up their game to make their mark on the leaderboard. After some exiting matches in the group stages the quarter finals got under way. First up say Harry Brown (Moffat) bt Logan McCluskey (Dumfries) 10-6, while Dumfries winner Declan Agnew (Carlisle) bt Thomas McCleary (Annan). In the other 2 quarters Brodie Little (Annan) edged past Rex Castillo (Carlisle) 10-6 and Lewis Hutchings (Dumfries) bt Jake Irving (Carlisle) 10-9 in a very good match. Both semi finals went to the wire as Harry produced a big win as he edged past Declan 10-9 and Lewis won by the same score against Brodie. Declan bt Brodie 10-9 to claim 3rd place whilst an all D&G final saw Harry’s good play and experience give him the edge as he completed the victory against Lewis 10-7. In the consolation final Cameron Hunter (Dumfries) used all his previous tournament experience to take that final 7-0 against Annan’s Alistair Mitchell.

In the girls event we had a 6 player round robin with the finalists from the Dumfries event at the top again. All six girls had some great points throughout the event with Eilidh Topping (Dumfries) coming 3rd, Lauren Gourley (Moffat) played some great tennis as she was just edged into 2nd by the overall winner Autumn Hodgins (Dumfries).

This leaves Declan still top of the boys leaderboard from Harry in second. In the girls Lauren and Autumn share tops spot which is the first time in the 3 years of the tour that 2 different girls have won an event is the same tour.

Dumfries & Galloway Red2Yellow Tour

Why the Red2Yellow Tour!
The tour was the idea of Tony McCluskey after his son entered a similar event in the East. The aim of this Tour is to give opportunities for Red, Orange, Green and Yellow ball Dumfries & Galloway kids to compete on a regular basis throughout the summer season in Dumfries & Galloway and also create a pathway so that each year they can step up to the next age group.
D&G Red2Yellow Tour Rules 2018
The region has witnessed a growth in Red ball tennis over the first 2 years of the D&G Mini Red Tour and to make sure these players don’t lose out or stop playing due to the lack of opportunities, then the Red2Yellow tour will aim keep them playing as much tennis as they want throughout the summer months in D&G and for years to come.
The Red2Yellow tour will aim to deliver a competition in as many of our D&G clubs as possible to ensure all players get the chance to enjoy tennis in their own courts and with a leaderboard for each event and a shield for each leaderboard winner each year it is hoped we can encourage more kids to travel between venues.
We will aim to have 28 events making up the new Dumfries & Galloway Red2Yellow Tour.
The first 5 events will still go ahead and are;

April Event Venue
14-Apr Sat Green Dumfries
15-Apr Sun Red Annan
15-Apr Sun Orange Annan
21-Apr Sat 12s Dumfries
22-Apr Sun 14s Dumfries

The events are also easy to search for, using this link just type in “Red2Yellow” and all the events will be listed https://www3.lta.org.uk/Competitions/Search/
