Top 4 Confirmed

The D&G Men’s league now splits into 2 section after Moffat lose 0-4 to Dumfries A. The top four teams now play the remaining matches to see who becomes 2014 Champions. With 7 teams entering this year, the league was to big to complete 14 weeks of matches and still have daylight remaining for the final weeks of the Mixed leagues. Therefore the top four teams after the first round of matches would complete their reverse fixtures as would the bottom 3 teams. All teams would retain the current points but the bottom 3 teams could not go above the 4th placed team even if they managed more points after all matches were completed.

Dumfries A have a 100% record with 6 wins out of 6 with Stewartry second with 9 points, 3 behind Dumfries A and Dalbeattie and Dumfries B both have 7 points.

Stewartry Ladies clinch title

The Stewartry ladies went into their away match against the 2013 champions Dalbeattie knowing a win would give them the title. Dalbeattie started strong with Maureen and Liz taking the first match against Charlotte and Kirsten  6-3, 6-4 but Stewartry Ladies Eileen and Faith levelled the match with a good win 6-2, 6-0 against Pamela and Shona. With all to play for Stewartry ladies pushed on to win both the final matches 6-4, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-4. This results gives Stewartry the title which has been in Dalbeattie hands for at least the previous 4 years. Well done ladies.

Standings of Ladies League
Points Played Rubbers Sets Sets % Games

2 Dumfries 3 4 8 8 18 17 51.4% 153 137
3 Dalbeattie 2 3 4 8 8 16 33.3% 87 126

In the gents league Dalbeattie recorded back to back wins away to Kirkcudbright 4-0 and Dumfries C 3-1, these results guaranteed a top 4 finish before the season split. Second place Stewartry entertained third place Dumfries B and gained a good victory winning 3-1.

Bridge too far in the cup

Dalbeattie Tennis Club played their second round tie in the Scottish Cup on Saturday (31st). It was probably the strongest men’s team that will ever represent the club with 21 singles and 54 doubles titles between them as they took on Bridge of Allan, from Stirlingshire.

Nine rubbers had to be played and after the first three Dalbeattie were down 1-2 with only Stevie White and Paul Boardman registering a win. After the next round Dalbeattie found themselves 2-4 down with only Brian Litster and Fraser Patterson winning their match.

Bridge of Allan only had to win one more rubber to take the match and this they did by way of their No1 pair out-classing Dan Donley and Colin Kennedy. Brian and Fraser managed to win their final game but the result was 6-3 to Bridge of Allan.
