Dumfries secure title

Dumfries B secured their first ever mixed B league title with the league only being created back in 2010. In their last match at home to Beechgrove they knew a draw would do to secure the title however after a slow start they soon got the better of their Moffat opponents as they took the match 4-0. This left them on 9 points with 4 wins, 1 draw and one match partially played. This leaves them 5 points in front of Dalbeattie who only had 2 matches to complete.

In the A league Dumfries A completed their final match at Kirkcudbright with a 4-0 win against the 2015 B league champions. This left them with 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat to the champions Dalbeattie A.

Well done to Dalbeattie A and Dumfries B for winning their respective leagues.

D&G Mixed Leagues

Dumfries B edged towards the B League title as they overcame their nearest challengers Dalbeattie B 3-1 in Dalbeattie, this leaves Dumfries on 7 points and Dalbeattie on 4 with both teams having 2 matches each left to play. In the other match Beechgrove entertain Kirkcudbright B at Dumfries under the floodlights. In an enthralling match all four rubbers went to championship tie-breaks. Juliet & Craig took the first by beating Kathleen & Ross 7-6, 3-6 & 12-10. Gina & Alex made it 2-0 as they beat Debbie & Paul 6-3, 6-7 & 11-9. In the second round of rubbers Kirkcudbright started the comeback as Ross & Debbie beat Gina & Craig 7-5, 4-6 10-8 and Kathleen & Paul completed the comeback as they beat Juliet & Alex 4-6, 6-1 & 11-9 to earn the draw.

In the A league Dalbeattie A completed their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Stewartry CSC in Dalbeattie.

This week saw 2 team capture their respective leagues. In the senior mixed doubles Dalbeattie made it 7 titles in a row as they beat Dumfries 3-1 at Dalbeattie.

This left Dalbeattie on 9 points which is now 3 in front of Dumfries with one match left to play. In the B league there are still 5 matches to play and 3 teams can still take the title. Dumfries B sit top with 5 points, Dalbeattie have 4 points, Kirkcudbright have 3 and Beechgrove have yet to get off the mark.

Elsewhere Beechgrove secured the 10s and Under boys championship after they beat Dumfries 2-1 on the day. This left both teams with 3 wins each and 6 points each but Beechgrove won with more rubbers. Well done to both team.
