Annan Tennis Club played host to the 2nd round of the 2019 D&G Mini Red Tour. This round was all D&G players with 8 boys and 7 girls all playing to secure those medals and add points to the leaderboard.

In the boys event we had 2 round robin groups and after these were completed we had the same 4 Dumfries boys in the semi final as we had in previously Dumfries event with Logan McCluskey, Dominik Czopek, Jack Wearing and Ethan Leyman. In the consolation event Adam Hunter (Dumfries) edged past Sam Donnelly (Dalbeattie) 10-6 with Isaac Sharp (Dumfries) beating Joseph George Wylie (Annan Seaforth TC) 10-4 in the 7th & 8th play-off match.
Both semi finals were tight affairs as the parents were treated to some brilliant tennis. Dominik edge the tightest of matches against Ethan 10-9. In the other semi favourite Logan McCluskey held his nerve to beat Jack 10-7 to set up a final against Dominik. Ethan produced a great come back to claim third place with a 10-9 win over Jack. In the final Dominik took the first point against the serve before Logan rattled off the next 3 points before Dominik levelled at 3-3. The points then ebbed and flowed before Dominik took a 6-5 lead, then Logan used all his experienced to shorten the points to win the next 5 points to claim his 2nd tour win. By winning this event Logan becomes the only boy in the 4 years of this event to win 2 events in the same year, the only other player to win 2 events was Euan Sharp who won his first in 2016 and his 2nd in 2017.

D&G Mini Red Tour Results
In the girls event we had a round robin with all 7 girls playing against each other to see who could take the gold medal and potentially jump to the top of the leaderboard. The early rounds saw 3 girls winning back to back matches as Caitlin Topping, Lucy Scade (Both Dumfries) and Annan’s Erin McKenna all starting well. Lucy made it 4 from 4 as she ended Caitlin’s winning streak with a 10-8 victory and Erin match that score as she also beat Caitlin 10-8 to make it 5 out of 5. The other 4 Dumfries girls all managed at least a win with sisters Ailsa and Hannah Goldie getting a win each, Stella Hodgins secured 2 wins and Abigail Warren matched Caitlin with 3 wins. This left Lucy against Erin to see who would secure the gold medal. The girls went toe to toe in the early stages as the score reached 3-3 before Lucy stretched this score to 8-5 but Erin kept coming and started to eat into the lead point by point until she secured the win to claim a 10-8 victory and by doing so claim the event win and became the first Annan girl to win a D&G Mini Tour event.
This leaves Logan and Erin top of their leaderboards with the final event scheduled for March 24th at the Loreburn Hall in Dumfries.
