Dumfries march on as rain cancels matches

The rain wiped out most of the fixtures on Wednesday 29th with only the 2 matches at Dumfries going ahead. Courts were damp and a heavy rain shower broke play up for 15 minutes, however Dumfries A secured a victory against their plucky neighbours Dumfries C. The first two matches were tight with the C team having a slight glimmer of hope but the experience and young Alex Shearman proved to strong and eventually took the match 4-0. In the other match an unlucky Kirkcudbright again landed in Dumfries on a damp and cold day to take on Dumfries B. The home team secured a 4-0 victory but Kirkcudbright showed their progress with 2 tight matches against a young and energetic B team.

Scottish Inter District Team Championships

100 young players from all over Scotland will travel this week to Kilgraston School in Bridge of Earn, Perthshire to compete in the 40th Scottish Inter District Team Championships, a team competition organised by Tennis Scotland. Competition will be fierce as teams from all nine District Associations in Scotland contest three age group events – 12, 15 and 18 & Under – over four days of play. The event, one of the most popular in Scotland’s tennis calendar, was first played in 1992 and was the brainchild of the national tennis coach at the time, Terry Mabbitt, to provide team competition for young players from all parts of the country. Well over 2000 of Scotland’s best young juniors have since participated at the Kilgraston event with a team representing Central District, which included brothers Andy and Jamie Murray, winning in 1996. With Tennis Scotland increasing its emphasis on team competition and having great fun whilst playing, the Inter District Championships provide both with lots of additional activities planned throughout the week to create a great tennis experience. Play starts on Wednesday morning with the finals scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Draws and a schedule of matches can be found daily at Scottish Inter District Championships. – See more at: Kilgraston fixtures and results

Judy Murray’s Tennis on the Road sessions

Let’s Inspire Scotland

We will be taking the high road and low road around Scotland to bring tennis to a whole new generation of kids.

At the heart of the programme are the games Judy Murray enjoyed with Jamie and Andy when they were little. What will you need? Think bean bags and buckets than Head rackets and backspin. We will be showcasing simple games and activities using everyday household objects that cost nothing to set up and that help develop the vital ABCs of sport – agility, balance and co-ordination.

Judy and her coaching team will aim to give parents, coaches, teachers and volunteers the tools needed to get kids active and to help further kick-start and develop tennis in Scotland.
